In March 2012 a group from Lynden Animal Clinic, owner Dr. Brent Babcock, his wife Robin, technicians Helma and Dee went down to perform spay and neuters with Friends of the Animals. They took 10 containers of donations for the dogs and children as well as monetary contributions from clients. Dr Babcock performed 34 surgeries, most being spays and one leg amputation. He also saw people’s pets while there that needed treatment. They brought home a total of ten dogs (three already adopted) All but two were adopted immediately.
Asociacion de Amigos Por Los Animal de Sosua or Friends of the Animals of Sosua is a non-profit registered charity that depends on donations of time, equipment, medical supplies and money to continue helping poor Dominican and Haitians fix their pets and help improve the quality of life for them. They work tirelessly going into the streets to treat dogs and cats with Ivermec for ticks and fleas, vaccinating to prevent distemper and rabies, and feeding the dogs and cats that have no one else to help them.
Through this visit they helped improve the lives of animals and people alike and plan to continue to support this worthwhile cause.
Through Judy’s vision and with the help of dedicated volunteers they are able to take care of the animals in Sosua and in turn improve the quality of the people’s lives. Any veterinarians interested in donating time or medications, people interested in making monetary donations or adopting a dog may contact the group directly at www.aaasosua.com.
